Application Checklist for Outside Programs

Outside Programs

Application Process

Log in to your account on the Lang Study Abroad website to access applications and all documents mentioned in this checklist. 

*If you have not yet created an account, please select “Create Account” from the left hand menu*   

Discuss study abroad plans with a Study Abroad Advisor; contact LangStudyAbroad@newschool.edu for an appointment. We recommend you have an unofficial transcript copy and financial aid award letter to help you prepare for your semester abroad. 

Meet with a counselor in Student Financial Services to discuss financing options, if necessary, and plan for payment once admitted. 

Complete applications for desired programs, including any supplementary materials.

Bring Study Abroad Approval Forms to Study Abroad office for signature (if applicable).

Pre-Departure

Once admitted, upload a copy of the acceptance letter from your program.

Confirm entry requirements and apply for visa if required. 

*Note for all programs, passport must be valid for 6 months after scheduled return date*

Purchase plane ticket (for tips on finding the best airfare, see this Discount Travel Options for Students flyer)

Discuss course selections with an Academic Advisor, and to ensure specific courses abroad may be applied toward major, contact the Departmental Chair.

Submit course selection for semester abroad to host program; inform Study Abroad office of course selection.

Follow-up with a Study Abroad Advisor to ensure you have been registered for mobility credits.

Return

Request final official transcript from study abroad provider/host university.

Don’t forget to inform your parents/guardians about your travel plans and itinerary.  

After your return, please share your experiences with the Study Abroad office and your fellow students!
