Direct Exchange Programs

Eugene Lang College has several exchange agreements with international universities and programs. These exchanges allow for a semester or year abroad, and students retain all institutional financial aid from The New School (with no difference in tuition charges). For more information about exchange programs available, visit the links below.



The American University of Paris

Lang students have the opportunity to study at the American University of Paris, an American liberal arts college in Paris, France.  No prior knowledge of French language is required to participate. The program is available for both fall or spring semesters. Students from all undergraduate majors are eligible, though priority consideration is given to students in Literary Studies, Culture & Media, The Arts/Arts In Context, and Urban Studies.

The University of Amsterdam

Since 1989, students from Lang College have taken humanities and social science courses through the exchange program with the University of Amsterdam. The program is available both fall and spring semesters, or the full academic year. Students must have earned at least junior standing prior to departure. Courses are offered in English.

John Cabot University

Through this program, students have the opportunity to study abroad in Rome with John Cabot University, an American liberal arts college offering courses in English. No previous knowledge of Italian language is required. The program is available for both fall and spring semesters, or an academic year. Students must have attained at least sophomore standing prior to departure.

Sarah Lawrence College

Sarah Lawrence College offers several international programs through a special exchange agreement with Lang, including the following destinations:
Note exchange options are available for both fall and spring semesters, but some prior knowledge of the language may be required for particular programs and/or semesters. In general,  students should demonstrate a minimum GPA of 3.0, but consult with a study abroad advisor to learn more about specific requirements for the program of interest. For example, students must have junior or senior standing for Havana, a minimum 3.5 GPA for Oxford University, and complete an audition for BADA.

Lang in Paris

For Spring 2016, Eugene Lang College is offering a special program for students in collaboration with Parsons Paris. The emphasis will be on an interdisciplinary liberal arts curriculum rooted in French literature, culture, thought and language, yet with the opportunity to consider a studio or design elective. Classes will remain small to foster community, and the curriculum will be highly contextualized for the city of Paris. Courses will be taught in English, though students also register in an appropriate level of French language. Applicants should be in good academic standing, with at least one semester completed by the time of departure; freshmen and sophomores in particular are encouraged to apply.
